(38,611 posts)I like the grapefruit too, but my guy can't eat it because of his meds, so I don't buy too much of it.
Berry season is coming...
The only thing about the fruit is that it's not very filling. Apples seem to be the best at that. I can eat an apple and feel like I don't need to eat for a while.

(9,282 posts)I found out about them here on DU. They are wonderful, sweet as candy with a pink flesh. Unfortunately not in season now, I think Nov. thru April. I would eat 2 or 3 a day.
Wonderful!

(32,196 posts)on a sandwich instead of mayonnaise. But they ripen up and go bad so fast. I've had to throw away a few recently because I couldn't eat them before they went bad, and I hate doing that.

(63,221 posts)Made an avocado, white corn, black bean, cherry tomato, cilantro & red onion salad w/ a chile lime dressing. Very good.
I love avocados, but it seems like it takes a minute before they go from un-ripe to over-ripe. You have to eat them right away!

(43,049 posts)in the back yard. It was a standard tree, almost as tall as our two story house, and on Peach Days the whole neighborhood showed up for the harvest.
Ladders and slings and kids running around on the roofs of the house and the garage-- somehow there were always a few peaches high up and in the middle that we could never get to.
But what we had fed the block. Everyone went away with bags and baskets of peaches. And we all had peach juice all over our faces. Dripping, honey-sweet nectar of the Peach Gods. Sometimes, the peaches were so ripe they actually squirted a little, adding to the glorious mess.
Memories...

(38,611 posts)Around here peaches come into season right around the time of my birthday. Forget the cake--make me a peach pie!

(63,221 posts)They are also good in salads w/ mixed greens (arugula, romaine, baby swiss chard), goat cheese and slivered almonds. Topped w/ a nice raspberry vinaigrette.

And one day you will discover Ranier cherries. Bliss!

(32,917 posts)They need hot summer nights to ripen, and we don't have hot nights until July. But watermelons are brought into the grocery stores (from the south) much earlier. Great for barbecues and picnics!
