Thanks for another great start to my Sunday, SCE! That elephant reminds me of the ones I saw at the Dublin Zoo enjoying their daily shower.

(1,640 posts). . . when I finally found this post, " Oh, thank goddess!" Sounding in my head, I really needed this today.
Different thoughts of charm and amusement as I perused the content. When I saw the elephant, "He looks so Happy!" And in that moment, I was happy, too.
Most Sunday's this post is front and center. Had trouble finding it today. Probably because there is so much godawful stuff for people to comment upon.
Goddess help us all. [ going back to cute animal pictures to ease my anxiety and depression ]
Oh, and yes, I forgot. Thank you, SalmonChantedEvening, for the effort you put into this weekly offering to our community. You are putting humor and kindness and beauty out into the world, thus transforming it just that little bit into a better place.

(65,552 posts)But I have to comment on this one:
"Canst" is second person singular (familiar). "Thine" is second person singular, too, but it is the possessive form (like "your" , so it can't be used as the subject of a verb. It would be like saying, "Can your have. . . ." The subject of the sentence would need to be "thou: "Canst thou have. . . ." And the verb "hath" is third person, so it can't go with "canst" and "thine."
Furthermore, since the sophisticated kitty seems to be asking for a sandwich for himself, he would not be using second person pronouns (and third person verbs) to do so. He would say (using the subjunctive for politeness, as they still do in the Romance languages), "Might I have. . . ."
By the way, remember when Spock went into his mating frenzy on the original Star Trek series? All the Vulcans kept using "thee" as the subject of their sentences, but "thee" is the object case, so saying, for example, "Thee knows what to do," would be as silly as saying, "Him knows what to do."
I wouldn't be bothered as much by this misuse of archaic forms except that when someone drags out these forms, that person is almost always doing so in an attempt to sound especially formal and sophisticated, but misusing them just makes the person sound ridiculous.

(21,285 posts)My cat loves my iPad. If I leave it open she will try to touch the screen and watch the stuff move around. Other times she just likes to lay on the IPad and hide it from me.
