Are you one of those DUers who censors yourself?

Don't. Just don't. If you really want to cuss then cuss. Fuck it. If you're pissed off then be pissed off. If you're hopeless then be hopeless. Don't worry about us. We can handle it. 10-4, partner? Alright.

...it's not a matter of swearing, or personal stuff, or being pissed off. But there are whole areas of interest here at DU that I'd never dream of posting in. Take religion. Is anybody going to "convince" anybody else of anything about this, on an internet discussion board? Hardly. My religious beliefs--or lack of them--are of no interest to anyone else, and I don't care about anyone else's. Which means that the whole thing is simply a waste of everyone's time, producing heat without light. And I have all sorts of heterodox opinions on all sorts of subjects that don't hew to any particular party line, and my experience in expressing these here at DU, no matter how gingerly, is that I get responses that begin, "so you're one of those people who", and end with "got it." To hell with it. Life is short. I just post opinions that I know virtually everyone here at DU agrees with, and keep my mouth shut the rest of the time.

I realize that we have to stay in certain guidelines here per the site rules, but there is much that can be said that people simply do not say that is within the guidelines.

For instance, when I say what I truly feel here when I really need to say such things, i.e, when I really need to get something out there and get it off of my mind, I usually encounter little resistance and even sometimes empathy. We are mostly liberals here. We all want Democrats to win and be successful. What I'm talking about here is more about the human side of us. The side that desperately needs to connect with other people.

So please, say want you want to say. If people don't dig it then that's okay. Just don't let your own ideas about what we might want or not want to hear hinder you. I find it much more interesting when people post from the heart rather than kicking the party line down the line.

There should be space for that here.

I have found that in most cases you can put forth an argument that is more to the point without the need for swearing.

I have not always cursed as much as I do now. In my previous life, I was the type of person who sat there smiling and nodding my stupid head just to keep the peace.

Then, I went through several hardships. Bad hardships. Hardships that can kill a person, or drive them to suicide. And I toughened up and became a new person. I had to in order to get through those hardships. With this added mental strength, came more cursing. Much more. I think about this a lot...this probably happened because I gained a lot of clarity. And if you truly have clarity about the world...I think you are denying yourself if you don't curse.

But what else came with that cursing was a better person, all around better. A person that knows how to analyze and fix problems in life. A confident person who does not let the opinion of others sway him. When your heart is in the right place, it doesn't matter what others think of you. A person that others lean on when they need help. A person who knows that cursing is the least of our problems, in fact, it is not a problem at all.

So I'm going to continue to curse.

Because that is who I am now. And in spite of my cursing, I'm more well liked in the real world than I previously was. Funny how that works.

My extended hard core Catholic family, however, berates me for cursing. But they are asshole Trump supporters who think Obama was born in Kenya, so I tell them to fuck off every chance I get. They blush and clutch their pearls and look like they are about to faint.

and even 2004.

The only time I've ever supported a candidate in the primaries for president was 1988 with Mike Dukakis, and look how that turned out. That was my first presidential primary - I had missed the 1984 election by a month.

Why the fuck do I do this shit to myself? Swearing has been fucking proven to lower your fucking blood pressure, so why the fuck do I constantly stop myself from fucking cussing?

Fuck this shit! I hereby fucking vow to start fucking swearing more.

FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK. It's just a word. It doesn't hurt anyone!

There are times when I write a really vicious, nasty, cathartic response to something stupid somebody posts here (I do this on other sites, too...) and then delete it because the response makes me look worse than the OP.

It's a way of getting it off my chest.
