Can someone tell me how I can "do" Uber when I need a ride to the doc's office, etc...?

I don't drive in downtown New Haven by myself any more and city cabs are very expensive and often don't come on time for my appointments.

I know I have to have an account...

The Apps should be available through the Apple or Google App stores, depending on which kind of phone you have.

I've always used Lyft and always been very happy w/the service I've gotten. Nice drivers, nice cars, reasonable rates, etc.

Edit: Maybe it's do-able via PC but I've never heard of it ...

If there aren't a lot of drivers in your area it can be hit or miss. I almost got stuck in Sante Fe because there weren't any Iber drivers Thanksgiving night. Luckily, there were Lyft drivers and someone where I was at called one for me.

Sometimes I see that option and sometimes not.

Mind you I was trying to plan a pick up for a 80 mile ride in Georgia. Sometimes I had the option and sometimes not.

it's really nice when you have an early morning flight and you have a guaranteed fare set many hours ahead that is much cheaper (usually) than taxis or even Uber.

If it's an android, go to Google Play to download the app; if it's Apple, go to the Apple Store (I think) to download the app.

If you don't have a smartphone, I don't know if either service will work.

to sigh up. You have to link it to you bank account so there's not money exchange with the driver. You'll get a text later if you want to tip the driver.

I think you can schedule a ride on a computer but don't know how you would schedule a ride back.

If there are enough drivers in the area, it shouldn't take very long to get a driver at your residence. You will be able to see where the driver is and how long it will take via the GPS on the app, so you will know where the car is at all times.

I use it quite a bit. I live in a city so I can get cars pretty quickly, but I have used it in more rural areas and it takes a little more time to get a car, but it's still pretty reliable.
