The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI wrote a little poem, first time in forever.
Lugging buckets of salt for tomorrow's ice storm,
Distracted with questions about a funding application,
I step into the kitchen--
Oh hey.
Why does my cat-filled house smell so sweet?
Little lemon tree,
barely two sticks straining
to carry the weight of a single fruit,
thank you again
for blooming.

I've been working 60+ hour weeks on a project with a looming deadline, and it was good to suddenly notice something else. I feel human again.

(8,213 posts)So long ago, I used to meditate. That moment when I stepped into the kitchen felt like the first time I'd been awake in eons. That's what I get from a good haiku, too. I'm so happy it evoked that for you.

(1,975 posts)I won't experience the bad stormy weather (we sent it there, sorry). But we have a little lemon tree, inside of course, it's only 8 below so the garden will wait a few months.
Hugs from Fairbanks, and this is so saved!

(8,213 posts)It's going to drop from the high 40's to 6 today, but 8 below is brutal. Glad you have a lemon tree, too--and I hope you enjoy the scent as much as I do.
Thanks for the encouragement.
