(10,436 posts)it was so disgusting when they left McDonald's "food" products at room temperature to see how long it took for decay to start.
Someone gave me a loaf of home-made sourdough bread. I had to throw half of it away, because it started to mold a few days after being baked. But a store-bought loaf of bread can sit on a shelf for over a month. I'd kinda forgotten that actual fresh food will not sit out for weeks, months or years.
The chemicals or whatever is in processed food has to be nearly toxic.

And they all should have decayed much faster. In that test, they sealed all of the items in containers so they didn't dry out. It was nearly a month before the first mold appeared on the "beef" and "chicken". I don't think the buns decayed either.
When I watched that, I couldn't believe it and was gonna try it with one of the cheap hamburgers. Then I remembered several times when giving my car a good thorough cleanup, finding old fries under the seat. Other than being dried out a bit, they looked like new. No telling how long some of them had been there.

(50,601 posts)Try this: Go to McDonald's. Order a Hamburger with no condiments. Attempt to eat said food item without a beverage. Attempt not to choke.
Reality time: A McDonald's Hamburger with no condiments is as dry as a piece of jerky. With no moisture, the food isn't going anywhere.
