Well Brian and Roger anyway. John wont/cant perform but still it made me happy. I have loved them since I was 10 years old watching Flash Gordon with my dad on our new VCR. He played News Of The World for me because I liked the music from the movie. I was hooked and saved up my allowance to buy all of their tapes. When Freddy died I was devestated. I remember watching the video for "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" and I was just so sad and angry about how demonized people with AIDS were. The fact that I was pretty sure I was gay made it even more difficult.
Anyway, seeing them perform with Lambert. It was great. If Freddy is somewhere looking down, I have to believe he would be pleased even if the movie was lacking in some areas.

(31,151 posts)John cant?
Love the tribute to Mr. Freddie Mercury at the end. The great Freddie Mercury.
Brian brings me to tears with that guitar of his.

(3,433 posts)Maybe you know but it was made by Brian and his father. The neck came from wood from their fireplace mantel. May's sound also comes from the fact he uses a 1940s sixpence as his pick.
So as for Deacon, he stopped performing after Freddy died. He just didn't want to perform without him. I think he only played with Queen twice after Freddy passed, The Concer for Life being one of them. I cant remember the other.
I remember watching an interview with May and he said that Deacon is involved with the business side of Queen and has given his blessing on the various tours and albums. They arent very close anymore but I guess Deacon was always very private and very quiet. I think he suffered from depression as well if I recall and Mercury's death hit him hard. I do not begrudge him whatsoever. The fact that he is still involved in the background as minor as that may be and the fact that he greenlit the movie.. he is clearly not a bitter man

(20,256 posts)and I can understand Roger and Brian wanting to continue to celebrate the music of Queen. While Paul Rodgers is a great singer, I think Adam Lambert is better suited to step into Freddie's shoes. He has his theatricality. It was fun to watch them perform.

So the two from The Favourite cancelled each other out for Supporting Actress and the middle class boss lady from Roma lost. If the latter had won and then later the indigenous maid had lost for Best Actress it would have looked bad considering that race and class are the point of Roma. But prolly Glenn CLOSE will take Best?
*******ON EDIT: here they are:

(20,256 posts)but there are always surprises. Remember when Juliette Binoche won for The English Patient instead of Lauren Bacall? I'm really crossing my fingers for Sam Elliott and Rami Malek.

I love The Favorite, but love Glenn CLOSE more!1

(11,916 posts)Quick story. So Mr. and I took our 13 yr old granddaughter to see Bohemian Rhapsody for her birthday...at her request.
I reminded her that when she was three...I bought her a custom dress that had a Queen tee connected to a purple tutu.
She turned it around to me a couple of weeks later...fashioned as a pillow. My DIL had kept it.
We are a QUEEN family.

(70,793 posts)I saw that movie, also Star/Born, Roma, didn't see Glenn CLOSE or Melissa McCARTHY, but I would have been happy with any of them but Gaga LAST. Would have been very happy with Glenn. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE Olivia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(20,256 posts)I do think she's a decent actress, but this role was not Oscar worthy.

(70,793 posts)Saw both of the first Star/Borns last night on TCM, and Judy always should win. Read the Wiki about STREISAND's and nope. But this one (GAGA/COOPER) did *not* need to be remade and all the characters were cardboard. So if they took Song, fine, just so they didn't get anything else, plus they turned me off with their promotional interviews acting like they had it done.
My thing is, do I want to see this movie/acting/song again, and nope nope nope, not this, not Roma. Yes for The Favourite. Now I think I want to see Black Klansman.
