I'm writing this for a friend who said she found some ad about her advertising on FB and getting paid for it. I then typed a search for "work at home jobs" for her and the first one I found seemed like it was going to be some sort of bullshit, (I decided to answer a few questions but then they wanted me to take a survey and......well I just quit and came here.

(2,157 posts)Need basically 4 things: an internet-connected computer, observation, recall, and time
Basic idea is you patronize a commercial establishment anonymously and report back details on your experience
Usually doesn't pay much, but if you have the time to complete your report (usually a standard format of stuff the management is interested in, like wait time, customer service, how clean the place was, it varies) and it's something you do anyway, worst case is you get comped for something you buy. It can be things like fast food, gasoline purchases, restaurants, stuff like that
Downside: sometimes it's a disproportionate amount of work to get comped for a latte at Starbucks. And it might have to be a flavor you don't care for

(268 posts)I did months of surveys and just before I had enough money to get a check cut, I was told I did not qualify for the surveys they needed because I said I didn't use the products. It's been 4 years and I never got paid anything, even though I was almost there to the payout tier. They gave me different surveys that had technical difficulties and did not work for me to complete the surveys. Total scam.

(17,152 posts)I worked from home for 9 years and retired to watch my grandkids. People knew I had found a real work-at-home job and several people asked me over the years about finding a job. I updated the links in 2017 for someone. Some of the links might have expired since I last checked them. I saved the ideas from a magazine article at the same time. I'll tell you, if your friend likes pets, and is trustworthy and reliable, it is a real challenge to find good pet sitters. Good luck!

Try: Customer service or direct sales. With call centers moving back stateside, many companies are hiring home workers, who work shifts as short as three or four hours. Agencies like ContractWorld, Sutherland Global, Convergys, and Arise hire for big retailers.
Try: Dog-sitting. After interviews and reference checks, you can list yourself on rover.com ordogvacay.com, both of which match pet owners with sitters or host families.
Try: Freelance business consulting. Hourlynerd.com matches up high-profile companies with independent business consultants on a per-project basis.
Try: Online-juror case reviews. To prep for trial, attorneys use services like onlineverdict.com andejury.com to run their cases by mock jurors, who get paid. It's like making money watching Law & Order!
Try: ESL tutoring. You don't need a teaching degree to tutor English as a second language to students via video chat. Try cambly.com or wetutorenglish.com
Try: Digital earning task apps and sites. Make extra cash while going about your regular shopping. An app called EasyShift asks you to complete micro-tasks while in a store, such as verifying a product is in stock. Sites like Swagbucks also offer payouts for taking surveys, watching videos, and shopping online.
Try: On-demand delivery. Turn your minivan into a cash-mobile. Through roadie.com, you can book local or interstate delivery jobs.

(56,582 posts)You're better off finding a job somebody's willing to pay you for and then negotiating the ability to work from home with them.
Graphic design and IT are the two fields it seems to work best in, but entry level jobs in those will never be 100% remote.

Probably need computer skill and people skills though.
I know there's a lot of work out there for people in that line of work.

(17,667 posts)lots of forums to check out. West work at home used to be a forum for all those that worked for WEST...WEST is now called Alorica.......www.aloricaathome.com ...another WOH agency is ASPIRE..I believe WILLOW used to be one as well. These are agencies that contract with many businesses so you could work for SEARS, QVC, Sacremento Bee...etc. I believe ASPIRE did require a small training fee but my dtr did that one and it paid pretty well.
I worked from home for a decade after i retired. My dtr works from home now for the U of Wash doing intake for the medical school. Just dont sign up for ANYTHING that you have to pay for.
