The PBS finale of Les Miserables is on right now. What a magnificent work (the book) is.

And the total theme: In the Iliad, Achilles was told, "Do not be RELENTLESS. Only DEATH is relentless. That's why men hate him so."

Fun fact: This PBS dramatic version is spectacular because Victor HUGO's thing is spectacular and can be played in any medium. But because of the Lloyd Weber deal, I expect the cast to break into song at any moment!1

And in the book, is JAUVERT Black for any reason (he is on PBS).

...he was the 19th Century's romantic of romantics, friend of Dumas--who was part black--and sympathetic to liberation movements in general. I agree this is a great story, and a sturdy adaptation...
