Does anybody here fish? I need help setting up a reel.

We are having an office fishing tournament on Saturday and I am having trouble setting up my rod and reel. I bought one of those cheap spinning reel combos with the line already on it. So I flip the bail down and put the line underneath it, then flip it back up and them thread it through the guides. So far so good until I try to reel it back in. Then it tangles all to hell. I simply cannot figure this out and all the YouTube videos are about putting line on the reel, which I do not need. There appears to be some kind of line guide on the bail but it always slips off that and tangles around the reel. Any ideas?

Line that's been wound tight on a spool for a long time tends to have a memory, maybe a bit of drag on the line as you crank in the right direction might help.

And is the line run around the bail in the right place/direction ?

See this instructional video that highlights how things should work...

I ended up getting a different kind and I STILL messed it up. One cast and it was hopelessly tangled so I gave up. Clearly fishing is not my sport. But the videos do help and maybe I can learn before next year's tournament.
