I have a very very old box from England with either bakelite or plastic letters. Not sure if it was a game or not. My question is, I want to put this up on Ebay but have no idea what category to list it under. Any thoughts or suggestions? Collectibles? Antiques? Games? Box reads 'Marshall & Snelgrove Oxford Street London'. I've posted a couple pics of the box below.(sorry I can't make them any bigger)
I've listed things on ebay before where I have literally had no views because I have listed it under the wrong category. Many thanks in advance!

(68,644 posts)I think the letters might be somewhat unrelated to the box, which bears the name of a British retailer.

Maybe the letters were part of some retail signage, but I'll bet the box is just a fancy giftbox that was used for, well, gifts.
I'd file it under collectibles.

(26,366 posts)I know the box is really old, but in pretty good shape. I never thought about them being two separate items but you might be right. Thanks for the advice!

(50,130 posts)Have you tried to discern whether the letters are bakelite? Try rubbing one briskly with your thumb until it's warm and then smell it. Bakelite gives off a "cordite" smell.
I, too, think the box and the letters are unrelated.

Seriously, go with both "games" and "collectibles". I'd put a reserve price on something like that. It looks like something rare and at least appears to be in excellent condition. Don't let it go for diddlysquat. I've got the original prototypes of the McDonald's character glasses from the early 70's (my dad did the color proof shots) - two different colorings for Ronald! I'm not letting them go for less than $700 (not currently listed, but that's what I expect for them). Don't be discouraged if something doesn't sell initially. There's an odd dynamic of who has what and who is looking for it and they either coincide or don't. Keep re-listing and try different times of day and different days of the week. Eventually the person who's going to drool over it will be looking at the right time.
