Back to school and the kids are in a bad mood

Christmas vacation is over and they only have two days of school this week. I bounced them 05:00 for high school let’s go. Then I bounced them again at 05:10 the one son comes down first.

Son who is sixteen - dad feel my head do I have a fever
Then he produces a few fake coughs and sniffles. So as a loving father I go into triage mode. I grab him hands on his cheeks and kiss his forehead. And say nope your as cold as ice go eat breakfast.

Son who is fifteen comes down- dad
I have diarrhea. I say really he says yea I think it was the pork roast maybe the sauerkraut.

Dad -Wow you two are on the same page. And you pulling a skate and putting it all on your mothers stuffed pork roast and sauerkraut . I go play drama on him the woman that carried you in her womb. Has now caused you the shits with a dinner she prepared with love you poor child.

He walks away mumbling. How stupid it is to have school for only two days this week. I respond hey what a coincidence I only have two night shifts left this week as well. What a pair actually they both like school. They are both on honor roll and yet starting back on a Thursday had their asses frosted it’s a mutiny .

My youngest is in college but all four tried to have sick days now and again. The oldest put the thermometer in hot water once when he was young. I ran to get my phone...child said 'what are you doing?'....me 'calling an ambulance, with a temp like that you have minutes to live'....child ...'very funny Mom.' Defeated, he got dressed rolled his eyes and slammed the door after ascertaining that yes he had to take bus and no I would not drive him.

Since I started subbing after retiring, I'm pretty tuned into school schedules.
Every school around here goes back next Monday or Tuesday!

I took these two days vacation and am actually sick . Been sick with a fever/cold/cough thing since Xmas eve. Seems whenever I stealthy take vacation to get stuff done, either the kids or I get legitimately sick and plans go down the tubes. Son’s gf teaches, and she’s sick. The strong antibiotic she’s on is messing with her stomach. Couldn’t get a sub though.

Yeah. They should have just extended break.

of Kansas City and they go back tomorrow-one day. I think it’s ridiculous, but kind of understand since winter last year was so bad and they missed so many days. They had to make up days lost at the end of school year. They went until June 5th which is unusual around here.
Side note. Sauerkraut sends me running to the bathroom with diarrhea. So does yogurt.

In our public school system I have had the good fortune to meet. Dedicated professional educators and they have my respect.
