She grew up in China, now lives in New York, and has played all of the world's great symphony halls, and with scores and scores of major orchestras.
Since she became a woman, she has tended to dress this way; and is now known for doing so. I think people would be disappointed to see her play in a chador.
A reviewer at the Los Angeles Times got in a bit of trouble, I've read, for reviewing one of her concerts by commenting more on her fashion style than her playing. She is a physically attractive young woman of course, but there are lots of those, but almost no one who can play the piano as she does. I don't think she'd be nearly as famous if she was just another fashion model.
I have tickets to see her perform live next month in Princeton. I'm going with my wife; it was her birthday present.
