I carry a flip phone as a backup because I am in and out of empty houses. So I bought a Verizon flip phone Dura XV LTE.
I like the phone but the battery won't hold a charge for longer than 12 hours and that's with me not using it.
I looked up reviews and that is the number 1 problem with this phone.
Does anyone have suggestions
I called Verizon. It wasn't the battery. Had something to do with the phone. They sent a system update. Seems to be working now. Day 3 and it's still charged up.

(18,874 posts)Since I don't use the phone for calls would it work to just turn it off when I am not using it?
I am looking up Mophie. I don't know anything about this stuff.

What is your primary reason for the phone? Security?

(18,874 posts)is just in case I would get hurt in an empty house I can call for help. It can be a long time before people get home.
I am just really disappointed in this phone. It wasn't cheap and when I first bought it it held a charge for 2 or 3 days. Now after 3 months it holds a charge for maybe 12 hours and that is with me not using it for calls.

If you have a relationship with them as your provider, keep at them. Get satisfaction. You get the right agent and they will help you resolve this thing.
How much was the dang device may I ask?

(18,874 posts)I will call the customer line today.
It was 2 or 3 hundred dollars. They add it into my monthly bill which is $68.
I guess that it just didn't occur to me that such a big company would be selling such an inferior product.
Hopefully I can get someone that knows what they are doing.

(20,268 posts)Tell them your retail experience was nowhere near satisfactory.
All the best to you!

(9,275 posts)For when youre not near a plug to charge up your portable charger. Theyre cheap (about $18). I got my granddaughter one made by Rayovac.

(457 posts)Then you can charge it as you drive and only use the phone while inside the house. When you come back to the car, plug it in again. The adapters are about $5

(13,949 posts)I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like the battery is easily replaceable & pretty cheap.
Also, tips from the Verizon web site for extending battery life:
These settings are only recommended for users who primarily use the device for Voice calls, SMS texting and PTT and not recommended for customers who use:
Web Browser
Mobile Hotspot
Field Force Manager
Email Group Messaging or Picture Messaging
Picture Messaging and PTT will still function while on the 4G network. If the phone is on 1X/3G, group messaging/picture messaging will not send nor receive with Mobile Data turned off.
Recommended Battery Saving Tips:
Turn data off
Adjust brightness settings [Note Adjust to the lowest setting.]
Turn Wi-Fi off
Turn Bluetooth® off

(17,023 posts)What you are describing is the typical case when the battery starts to go. Im on my third battery for an iPhone.

(18,874 posts)I did read that these batteries do not have a long shelf life and who knows how long that phone sat on a shelf somewhere.
I have turned off everything and hope that helps. I can order a new battery from Amazon.
Thanks everyone

(131,240 posts)I got a new flip phone from verizon a few months ago, old phone wore out, and was annoyed the charge didn't last long. Returned to verizon store, and sales guy turned off all the places the phone was 'tracking' and causing draining; helped a lot.
