Fifty films you should see before you die (according to Britain's Channel 4)

A rather off-beat list (wiki page). For instance, it has Robert Altman's The Player, but not Nashville or MASH. Silence of the Lambs is off the list, but a less thrilling treatment of Hannibal Lecter, Manhunter, somehow got on. I've linked out to a few films I thought you might not've heard of. The list heavily favors British films.

There is just one film from the 1930s - A Night At The Opera.

There is just one film from the 1940s - Black Nercissus.

There are no silent films at all (no Chaplin?).

It's like looking at the history of film through the wrong end of a telescope.

'Sexy Beast' was good, but no way it rates above those classics. No '12 Angry Men'?

Each of us is likely to find fault with even the best lists, but for all the good picks here there are glaring omissions that are far superior to some of these picks. They seem to be going out of their way to include some that simply don't measure up.

'Terminator2'? If they're going to go that route, they may as well make it a list of the top 300 or 200 so their stranger picks don't squeeze out the truly deserving films.

None of those are as good as Casablance many of them are better than to Kill a Mockingbird (because it is overrated) and some of them are better than Lawrence of Arabia, Aquirre, for example.

But of course, this is all opinion.

Not the usual list of classics but there are some great films here.

Come and See is a real mind blower. All those who LOVE war should see it.
