he was obviously "not from around there" but he seemed to treat them like human beings, showed no revulsion or fear...just a solid attempt to talk and see how they are doing. it takes a certain amount of courage to do what he is doing. I didn't pick up condescension. (for that read some of the comments at yourtube - ugh)

because they were inhumane. Strikes me that this video is as well, However, I can see that there is a certain validity to studying this (phenomenon?) Poverty, isolation, lack of education would all contribute, I imagine.

Many years ago, my BFF and I drove from Oklahoma to New Orleans for the Jazz Festival. We stopped to get gas at some off-road gas station somewhere in Louisiana , just a pump, really. There were men sitting in chairs watching as we were filling the tank. I stopped after about a $1's worth and we left in a hurry. They looked like this family. Some scary shit.
