I just don't really like to talk on the phone either.
I do get text messages but will not answer them.
If you want to talk to me just call me.
Anyone else not text.

... but I used to tell my callers (honestly), "I bet I haven't sent more than 3 or 4
text messages in my life."

I ride the bus... and I HATE when people feel the need to "share" their personal
dramas with everyone else via their phone conversations. I blame "reality" TV
shows for allowing people to think that's normal... even acceptable.

(18,705 posts)He talked rather loud and I learned more about his sex life then I really wanted to know.
The bus trip was 3 hours long.

(16,230 posts)I like hearing a human voice plus I don't want to have to put on my reading glasses to have a conversation.

(34,108 posts)One has to know the difference between when it should be a call or a text.
Text, quick and to the point.
Call, more time to chat.

(13,661 posts)full conversation. They're both in school; I know what they're up to and I can just say a quick "hi" w/o them feeling like they have to stop everything they're doing.
It's a nice, sort of short-hand way of staying in touch long-distance. But I didn't start texting until about 2 months ago, when I got a phone with an easier-to-use keyboard.

(4,033 posts)it's the only way she can get in touch with 1 son. One grandson was in college in West Virginia, where if she called and left a message, it went into the netherworld. So she would text him & now texts to 2 kids (me and brother) and 7 of 8 grandkids.
Mom lives with me in a 2 bedroom condo. I've been in the living room, she in her bedroom (distance 25 feet) & she's texted me. I text but I'm not a fan of it.

(19,387 posts)More often than not they won't answer the phone, but they'll answer a text.
On the upside, when they're out and about and I want to be sure of where they are, I have them take a picture and text it to me.

(13,661 posts)I have a dear friend who is a HUGE time sink; she'll get on the phone and settle down for a natter for 3+ hours and sometimes the only way I can get off the phone is to hang up on her (and then blame the cell phone battery); I also have a business colleague who rambles and rambles but he's necessary to talk to so I feel like I endure mindless conversation far more than I want to.
So if my loved ones and friends prefer to text to stay in touch, I'm all for it.

(149,843 posts)I never learned how, and recently I found out we don't have that on our cell phones. My husband didn't want it, so there you are. I don't mind at all...
We rarely use our cell phones anyway.

(46,379 posts)And I use it to call people and get calls.
That's all.
I want texts, I get e-mail.
I want a camera, I use my camera.
I want games, I use my game consoles.
I want music, I use my mp3 player.

(47,675 posts)We've got an excellent plan as it is, but texting cost 15 or 20 cents (forget now) for a received message even if it was never read. Some of my daughters' friends were sending them texts. I blocked it after the first bill arrived.

(28,394 posts)I text my husband at his workplace, because neither of us can talk on the phone at work.
I don't like to talk on the phone at all. I can't stand people who are always on their cell phones.

(5,849 posts)else I would text more. I don't mind doing it; it's the best way to keep in touch with some of the younger people in my life.
On the other hand, I don't understand this constant need to be *texting*texting*texting*tweeting*tweeting*tweeting* that some people have.

(5,364 posts)I mean I have to hit a number key anywhere from one to four times to get the desired letter. Christ, it takes me like 10 minutes to type a reply like "I'm just fine, thanks". I've never initiated a text, ever.
I feel other's pain too: I just can not see the reason for the constant need to text text, read read, text text. people are constantly ( and rudely ) interrupting conversations or work tasks with me as they turn round and hunch over to read a text and replay. It's like EVERY time some stupid tone goes off they have read and reply, right now. It's out of control.
