(4,056 posts)Especially since they stole their national dish from the Chinese (thanx, Marco Polo!) but also because as a vegetarian there's far more variety if you eat Italian.
I've spent lots of time in both countries, and in the interest of Full Disclosure, I've never been ANYWHERE else I love as much as Italy. Spain: nice place, great Euro culture and history, and beautiful Med beaches. But unfortunately, there are Spaniards in Spain. Anyone who thinks the French are stuck-up needs to spend some time in Madrid to see real arrogance in action.

Didn't have that experience in Spain.
I think really good Italian food is both incredibly amazing and hard to find.

(50,566 posts)Why discriminate with borders? Almost any combination of garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, arugula, basil, oregano, feta, mozzarella, eggplant, wine, lemon, fresh fish, fresh shellfish, garbanzos, mint, hummus, pita, peppers, olives, balsamic, etc., is going to be good!

With my dietary restrictions, I'd live longer if I moved back to northeastern Spain, though.
