Spousal unit got sick Monday night. I woke up to him chilling so hard he was shaking the bed, and by that point I decided as the old saying goes, in for a penny, in for a pound, and there was no sense in going to sleep in the other room as a) the bed was full of clothes being sorted, and b) I'd probably gotten it anyway, as we had both been to The Chicks' concert on the previous Wednesday (a likely source, even though it was outside) and done a gem show all weekend, so I continued to sleep in the same bed, and sure enough, I got sick Wednesday evening. I didn't chill as hard, but had all the other fun of coughing, not sleeping, dizziness, etc. I stayed pretty much flat on my back in bed for 2 days and got up for the first time today, even though I didn't feel very much like it. I'm super-dizzy, don't want to eat, and still coughing a fair amount although it no longer sounds like I'm trying to bring up a lung. I also don't want to eat and am glad I made a big pot of congee the other night before I got sick. It might taste good later.

(65,581 posts)My wife just had a cold, and it kicked her butt for 9 or 10 days.
She tested negative twice for COVID.

(24,853 posts)Your symptoms are very different from my husband's and mine earlier this year, which tracked with the omicron: head congestion and drainage, and fatigue. No fever or pain.
We got it for the first time on a rare overseas trip in June. We neglected to mask - false sense of security; no one was masked in US ( SeaTac) or Heathrow.
Had to turn around and come home!
We saw The Chicks last summer at The Gorge. Great vibe!

(6,917 posts)It was about 3 weeks before I felt like a normal person. It was about 6 weeks altogether before I felt like I'd made it back to normal. Those chills were the scariest things about it to me. They were exhausting to the point of weakening my functionality. I noticed a sort of slow-wittedness and wondered at the time if it was that "mind fog" they'd talked about during the first round, in 2020. It was a thing for about 4 days. But when you pass the magic 70 that could be normal.

(111,537 posts)I'm sorry you're going through this, I had it pre vax and a breakthrough case post vax. At least there are tests for it and treatments if you run into trouble.
I will say the post vax case was pretty mild, probably one of the omicron strains since I never got it again.

(2,541 posts)Hopefully this will be an inconvenient discomfort than what others have had.
COVID hasnt gone away. We still need to vigilant. Two more people at wrk got hit last week. The way COVID just brushes up against some but hammers other is baffling HC and each new variant just adds to its bewildering nature and sends everything back to square one.

(8,292 posts)The fever was his biggest problem but that broke about 48 hours ago. He couldnt stop shaking and he was visiting the states to see his ailing mother. Once he tested positive, he stopped seeing her. He flew home the same day I had arranged a booster. Hes avoided covid until now. I had it in June 22 and was able to keep it from him. I hope I dont get this one either. The booster was BA 4-5.
He has no further symptoms but the daily tests are still positive. He can work from home.

(109,031 posts)because of the theory that a bigger viral load can lead to a bigger case.
I don't want this but I know my odds aren't good.
My husband is much better after a day of Paxlovid. He doesn't mind the taste because he says it reminds him of grapefruit juice, which he likes. I can't imagine how anyone can like grapefruit juice, so I'll probably have a different reaction to Paxlovid if I ever have to take it.
Glad you're on the mend!
