Best birthday gift! I turn 59 tomorrow.
My 18 year old kiddo got his private pilot’s license last week. For my birthday, he said he would take me for a flight…wherever I wanted to go. FYI, his training plane is a Cessna 152. A very tiny plane so we stayed somewhat close to home. I asked him to take me north of where we live to the Mission Mountains…the gateway to Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park.
Our little plane had to get a jumpstart because it was so cold this morning…but it got better from there.
Here’s a little of what we saw…and yes, it’s winter here already:

This was my first flight with Owen. He just got his certificate a week ago and I was his first passenger. He’s a wonderful pilot. I was so impressed and I wasn’t nervous once we were in the air. Thank you for your kind words.
My first time in a Cessna 152. The heat comes out of the glove box and I kept it open the whole time.
What a fabulous birthday gift!! You must have been beaming with pride the whole flight! Really … you have one heck of a wonderful kiddo. Hats off to him and hats off to raising good sons! I just can’t imagine that beautiful scenery and being up so high.

I thought I’d be so nervous…but I wasn’t. He was very competent. I had my Relief Band on for motion sickness but the air was so still I don’t think I needed it. Owen had never seen the Missions up as close as were and he was impressed. We made a plan to fly over them next summer when he’s in the Cessna 172…a four seater with a little more room. It was an honor to be his first passenger.
That was an amazing birthday gift, and the photos are great. It does look cold.

I had a bd a couple of weeks ago but didn't go anywhere. Which was fine by me. I did talk to my son, though, for half an hour. So that was the best bd present I could ask for.
Yes. The gift of time with our kiddos is the best thing ever. I was thrilled when Owen asked me to fly with him and I feel honored to be his first passenger. I’m choked up even thinking about it.
It was a wonderful day.
I just love them too. Seeing them from the air was breathtaking. Owen says we will fly over them into the swan valley next summer.
