01. "You might want to educate yourself" - This smacks of aloof elitist. I disagree with you, so you must be a stupid, ignorant, worthless little troll that is completely beneath me. When you think the way I do, then you'll be at my level.
02: "You're entitled to your opinion" - Thank you. I wasn't asking if I was or wasn't.
03: "Tell us how you really feel" - I just did. You're rude.
04: "That's never happened to me" - That's great. So discount my experiences because it's never happened to you.
05: "If that's how you feel, I pity your spouse" - You wouldn't know me if you tripped over me. BTW, nice swipe and saying I'm a bad spouse because you disagree with me.
06: "I see your education failed" - At least I got one, buddy.
07: "Maybe you need to look at yourself if those things happen to you" - Yes, it's the victim of racism's fault. I wonder it people would say that to a rape victim face to face
08: (any statement with expletives made to insult you) - I was told to consider the source, not the comment. Online fool with a keyboard being rude = scumbag.
Can you think of others? My uncle says all social media is a cesspool. Where else can a person be as rude, snide, and haughty has possible without fear of getting what they deserve?

Up yours! It must be nice to be so far up your own ass that you think everyone's a liar.

Where else can you be obnoxious without an instant scrotum kick or head-punch?
Sometimes people need to relax and first think about their social media posts and what the reaction might be if said face-to-face.
I try not to say rude things (*), and if I am at the receiving end, I don't fire back.
(*) Can't help myself sometimes though. Apologies in advance.

(102,561 posts)some other mainstream (not necessarily far rightwing sites) when truly hair-raising graphic threats are common.
People are passionate online and their emphasis, no matter how rude, is often tinged with the stressors of their lives. Within limits (especially concerning threats) I try to remember that. Sometimes the areas of disagreement represent areas of true fear. When some disagree without a direct understanding of those issues that specifically impact "you," a button is pushed. I understand that to some extent.

Not all of these apply to me, some of them do apply to me.
It's unfortunate that the majority of these have came from people that I know on a personal level. I don't feel like continuing any personal relationship with any of them after reading them.
My point is that even close friends and family can say some fucked up shit on social media, it's not always random strangers that cut people down.

(51,090 posts)a joke when the poster agrees with the strong statement another has made.
"This never happened to me" doesn't necessarily discount your experience. If the person is not allowed to report that their experience differs from yours, then it's YOU who are discounting THEIR experience.
"Maybe you need to look at yourself if those things happen to you." If applied to something racist, then yes of course that's ridiculous. But sometimes a poster is spouting ridiculous things. Their words, perhaps because of their anger over benign things or over obviously nonexistent situations, clearly suggest they might be the source of the problem. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out.
