Did another fitting the other day. Tried on all my tailored clothing items. Not much more progress.

Still, I was easing into my old workout routine at the urging of Mrs. Aristus. Not too much too soon, she asked. She doesn't want me to have a heart attack.

But I'm done easing in now. Today, I increased both my cardio time, and the maximum weight lifted per workout. I ended my routine feeling pleasantly tired, but not exhausted. So I think I'm taking it at the right pace. I hope so. I plan on ending my dry spell sometime in the next month. (And man! Am I looking forward to hoisting a few with my beloved Loungers on Friday nights again!)

I think by stepping up my game, I'll see some faster progress in fitting back into my suits and sport coats.

I'm so grateful for your words of support and encouragement. You are all very dear friends.

So it takes a little longer than expected. I have found that getting rid of my extra, now that I actually gain extra weight, it takes longer to work it off each time. Age will do that. After having a steady build up this is a good time to turn it up a bit, still, don't push too hard.

Try having 180 or less per day. The average person consumes 300 carbs per day. The weight will fall off. Then build back up to the amount of carbs per day that holds the weight you want to maintain. Carb apps all over the place. Get one.

First dose today, so no drinking for awhile. And trying to get back to the low carb, but I keep putting it off. It seems that even a little bit of carbs is too much for me. Not to mention that even one slice of pizza turns on a switch where I want more pizza, some of the bread sticks, and a side of whatever is in that bowl over there I sure hear you when you mention the effort

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job, even if it is a little slower than you hoped. Hang in there!

Locally it's $7 for a one pound loaf, and there's 20 slices per loaf - each slice has only 1 carb and 40 calories. (It's cheaper in town, but that's 25 miles away.)

It's not any easier than working out, but no one ever had a heart attack from eating healthy food.

Dual Income, No Kids.

Her kids are all grown and gone. We have an empty nest that’s completely paid off, and no debt. So we spend a lot of our money on clothes.

When I was younger and discovered the power of clothing to impress other people, I wanted to be the kind of guy who owned his own tuxedo. Now I own two, a black Calvin Klein and a gray Vera Wang. I also mix it up with a navy shawl-collar dinner jacket, a white dinner jacket, and a gray one decorated with silver brocade.

I have a number of very nice Hickey-Freeman and Hart, Schaffner, & Marx suits that are great for a night on the town. So I really want to be able to fit in them again soon.

Fitting into old clothing, much of which is likely out of style now, is not so important.

So put the clothes away. Learn to love your veggies lightly cooked, with a drizzle of lemon juice and a grind of pepper. Cut your meat portions in half until you're ready to use them as a flavoring instead of a main event.

Walk. Increase your walks by 10 minutes as you tolerate it until you're up to an hour a day.

If your balance is good, ride a bicicle for that amount of time some days. If you've got access to a pool or an ocean, swim for that amount of time on some days.

Start paying attention to what's around you, what makes you feel good, what increases your stress. Pay attention to those shoulder muscles starting to bunch up, they tell you what you need to walk away from.

Good and healthy changes can bappen as long as they're not unpleasant.

Take the clothes out again next year. laugh at the out of style things and donate them. It's what I did with my dad's suits, I knew somebody would be looking for something to get buried in and they'd work. After a year of exercise and improved diet, I'll bet the rest will fit.

My suits are all pretty standard. Single-breasted in classic colors and fabrics. Nothing too flashy. When I want to jazz up a suit, I usually pair it with brightly colored shirts and ties, and a nice pocket square.

I also like dressing down a suit with a mock tee and a pair of suede desert boots.

The last really trendy item I bought was a ribbed-fabric four-button suit back around 1999. The four-button style only lasted a couple of years after that, and I’ve stuck to the classics since.
