(25,026 posts)Does this person think Nirvana is contemporary?
Maybe they should develop a style for their own era or even better get over themselves and realize people have been sporting jeans and favorite bands for many decades.
If I want to fit in with them I can always try staring at my phone with a resting grumpy cat face.

(5,129 posts)Star Trek and I are the same age, 60. We were both 'created' in 1964.
I remember people having B&W televisions and not caring about it.
I remember when FM took over as the radio band of choice. I remember having to get an add-on for that as most cars did not have FM radios.
I remember party lines. (explain that one to a person under 30!)
I remember when the news was done as a courtesy and it was never biased or politically motivated.
I remember when it was unusual for a car to have an auto transmission. (I think growing up on a farm has something to do with that one.)
I remember the only time you could watch cartoons was Saturday mornings. (Except on PBS. But, no one wanted to watch any of that after one got to school age. The Saturday morning lineup thing died with the birth of cable channels.)
Star Wars came out 47 years ago.
These things make me feel VERY old.

(368 posts)I found a rock and roll tshirt display in a store that showed a Rolling Stones 1975 tour shirt. I saw the Stones then! But, the store was actually sold out of the tshirt. I was so disappointed that I thought the store shouldn't have allowed young people (like those under 60) to buy those shirts because they weren't there! It was a crazy reaction, just like the joke featured here, but, honest, I would have grabbed one out of a 40 year olds cart if I'd spotted it. (Will DU fund my bail if I get picked up for tshirt fighting?) 😥 🤪

(195 posts)I hitchhiked from Nashua NH to Boston to see Humble Pie, Montrose, and Spooky Tooth. It was my first concert. I was 17. When Montrose finished their set they set their guitars down and the guitars were still playing as they exited stage left. I was tripping balls. Get off my LAWN!

(21,884 posts)Libs of TikTok is a handle for various far-right[a] and anti-LGBT social-media accounts operated by Chaya Raichik ,[10] a former real estate agent.[11][12][13] Raichik uses the accounts to repost content created by left-wing and LGBT people on TikTok, and on other social-media platforms, often with hostile, mocking, or derogatory commentary.[14][15] The accounts promote hate speech and transphobia, and spread false claims, especially relating to medical care of transgender children.[16][14][17][18] The Twitter account, also known by the handle @LibsofTikTok, has nearly 3 million followers as of February 2024[19][20] and has become influential among American conservatives and the political right.[12][15][21] Libs of TikTok's social-media accounts have received several temporary suspensions and a permanent suspension from TikTok.[22][23][24][25]

I'm a preferred substitute teacher at a high school in Los Angeles.
The teenagers DEFINITELY know Nirvana isn't their generation. The shirts just look cool and they happen to like Nirvana as well. I also see teens wearing The Ramones shirts, The Cure, The Clash, and, of course, The Beatles. They actually really like the music of these great bands. Sometimes I'll see one of them with a shirt on and I'll say are you a fan or did you just put on the shirt? Every now and then they say it's there moms or dads. I still think it's cool.
In fact, a couple of months ago I was subbing for a 10th grade class. The students were working in projects with their groups so they were discussing their assignments while enjoying each others company as well. All of a sudden one of the 10th grade girls sang these words: "Once there was a way to get back homeward.... Then the rest of the table joined in, "once there was a way to get back home....sleep little darlin' do not cry and I will sing a lullaby". Yes....I teared up....
