Going to see the eclipse unexpectedly!

I'm going to Dallas Monday morning and last night I realized. Holy moley I'm gonna be seeing it!! I had to buy the glasses on Amazon last night to get them Saturday. I love the unexpected! So I get to see an NHL game and an eclipse on my first solo vacation!

Why not? Is it in the path too? I was planning on going to Dallas for over a month now. I just happen to find out I'll be there during the eclipse lol

referring to the fact that places in the 100% zone are receiving a LOT of outside visitors that are hard for small communities to accommodate.

I'm in the 100% zone and plan to watch from my yard, away from crowds pouring into my small city.

ON EDIT: For the past couple of weeks, the public library and various organizations here have been giving out free viewing glasses provided by the county health department. Signs are posted in public places to NOT look at the eclipse without special eclipse glasses and NOT to use sunglasses instead.

... on the roads, the fact that there are only two grocery stores and they're 14 miles apart (three if you include Walmart), maybe 15 gas stations between the two big towns that make up 15,000 of the 20,000 population of the county. Four motels in our town that have been booked for the week for more than six months at $500/day, two ranchers have made space and taken reservations for 80,000 between them. Houses are renting at $2000/day with a five day minimum.

Fortunately those guys have set it up - water, portopottys and such. The town closest to them has that second grocery (both of them will be closed and roped off on Monday).

We are set up for SNAFU.

I'm in a mostly rural county with some resorts nearby. Some of those places will be more swamped than the city.

Schools, some businesses and offices, and the library will be closed, partly to let kids and employees see the eclipse and partly so they can avoid expected traffic.

I checked a week ago where in the sky the sun will be at the time of the eclipse and realized that my own back yard will have a good view if it is not too cloudy.

15. I can go on the deck to see it. Weather seems like it's not going to cooperate. That might even make it worse.

alternating with snow for the past few days. No rain or snow today. Temps are going up. Today started out cloudy but is sunny and clear right now at 6 pm.

The forecast for Monday is partly cloudy. I just hope that the clouds will not be over the sun. Weather changes quickly around here. If we're lucky, it will be sunnier than expected.

I went to the grocery store today to stock up on low items. Place was busier than usual for a Saturday. They had a section to stock up for eclipse parties.

So I'd resigned myself to only seeing a partial version until my sister in Kansas called me to say she'd figured out a way to see it. I've driven to Overland Park, where I am now and had WONDERFUL barbecue for dinner -- honestly, I would be happy to have only barbecue on the rare times i get to visit here, and trust me, Kansas City barbecue is the absolute best in the country. Don't bother to argue or attempt a counter claim.

Anyway, she's booked us a hotel in St. Louis. We'll drive there Sunday, visit a bookstore, and on Monday drive a bit south. She'd originally planned to go to Cape Girardeau, but given the uncertainties of the travel, we are not planning on stopping in Jackson, MO.

I got to see totality in 2017 in Nebraska with some friends, and that was incredible. This should be even more incredible.

For those of you who are younger than me, plan on seeing the August 12, 2045. Look it up. Totality in 2017 was a bit over two minutes. This one will be a bit over 4 minutes. In 2045, it will be more than six minutes. I'm hoping to see that one. It's a few days before my 97th birthday, and while I'm an incurable optimist on such things, realistically I know I may not be here to see it. But all of you reading this do the math and make appropriate plans.

the weatherfolk are predicting 70-80% chance of cloud cover in this area during the eclipse.

It really sucks. This will probably be the one and only chance I have of seeing a total eclipse in my lifetime.

Have a great time!

My husband and I will be watching the ecliose from somewhere in the Indianapolis area, the closest place to us that's in the path of totality. Planning on leaving Sunday and hoping to get there ahead of the crowd (but not holding our breath).

within a block of where I used to live south of Dallas. Now I'm in Florida, but I'm driving back. There are a couple of eclipses coming to Spain that I should be alive for, but I've never seen a total eclipse and time is running out.

We're suppose to be able to see the horned Devil Comet as well, apparently during the eclipse and up until April 21.

Here's hoping for clear skies soon.
