It doubles your film stock budget because you need two rolls of film as opposed to one with green screen. And synchronization gets REAL fussy with this - the traveling-matte negative can't be even slightly out of sync with the negative with the subjects on it or it screws up the whole effect.

But you can't deny that it does an excellent job.

... or buries a production.

It's because no one really believes they're making art these days. Disney made art. I was always impressed with the animation live action quality, I just didn't know why before.
