I used to live in Kansas, and I was constantly frustrated that so many of my Democratic friends registered as Republicans so as to vote in the primaries as R's. I kept on telling them that number one, they shouldn't give a flying fuck about who Republicans would nominate and number two (far more important) the fewer the registered Democrats, the less likely those identifying as Democrats would run for office, especially in state or local offices.

Be honest. Register with the party you identify with. Do NOT register as an independent just because you'd prefer those who access those records might discover your party preference. Fuck that. Register so you can vote in the primary in a state that requires you vote for the political party you're registered with.

And exactly how long ago was that last election you voted for Cheney? I'm thinking more years ago than you want to admit.
