I do my best to leave any service person with a smile.
I chose to use the live checkout line at the store today.
As a usual greeting, I responded to her inquiry saying,"It's just another day in paradise."
She disagreed.
"There is no paradise here on earth."
I said, "Well, I'm enjoying my time here."
She retorted, "The only paradise is after our life, earth sucks."
I paid my bill and left.

(3,697 posts)Cashier is a PR position. I cant imagine others wont complain. If nothing else people will avoid her lane and the bosses will notice. Im not generally a complainer but those kinds of answers would have sent me to the service desk. Its hard enough these days go shell out more and more money.

(5,162 posts)That is a line from the novella 'Rage', which is in the collection called 'The Bachman Books'. The main character is quoting Bertrand Russell, who said "Gravity alone proves the existence of God.". The character then says, "But anyone could have told Russell that he was incorrect... the earth just sucks." Now, I am not saying that he created the saying, but that is where I saw it.
