Ingredients
Nutella is often advertised along with milk and hazelnuts, although these ingredients constitute a small fraction of the recipe.[12]

The main ingredients of Nutella are sugar and palm oil (greater than 50%). It also contains hazelnut at 13%,[13] cocoa solids, and skimmed milk.[14] In the United States and the United Kingdom, Nutella contains soy products.[15] Nutella is marketed as "hazelnut cream" in many countries. Under Italian law, it cannot be labeled as a "chocolate cream", as it does not meet minimum cocoa solids concentration criteria. Ferrero uses 25 percent of the global supply of hazelnuts, though not all of this is used exclusively in Nutella.[16]

In November 2017, the company modified the recipe slightly, increasing the sugar and skimmed milk powder content.[17] Since the colour of the product is lighter in tone, the Hamburg Consumer Protection Center estimated that the cocoa content was also reduced.[18] Some news outlets reported that the modification of the recipe led to consumers' being "outraged" or "going nuts".[19] Ferrero has confirmed that it has changed the recipe of its chocolate and hazelnut spread – sparking a huge backlash among fans of the brand.[20]

The traditional Piedmont recipe, gianduja, was a mixture containing approximately 71.5% hazelnut paste and 19.5% chocolate. It was developed in Piedmont, Italy, due to a lack of cocoa beans after post-war rationing reduced availability of the raw material.[21]

I had one jar of that stuff. All that palm oil and sugar. May as well go with peanut butter, but the pure stuff, not the hydrogenated additives.

after smelling (and partaking in) those heavenly Nutella crepes on the streets of Paris. OMG.

I then returned to the US and found it impossible to find except from the most limited import food stores and I bought it up when I could find it. It wasn't too many years that US importers "woke up" and then North American producers began to make it. It pretty quickly became ubiquitous. But as per the article in the OP, the formula changed and it was no longer what it once was (and considerably more unhealthy).

Maybe once a year, I give in and buy a small jar, but it is so addictive.

So, yeah. Plain peanuts-only peanut butter is far more healthy.

It’s like a bad, cloying candy bar. Those who like hazelnut and chocolate can get terrific hazelnut chocolate bars. There are incredible hazelnut tortes with chocolate or mocha to bake. This stuff is just cheap and nasty.

I love Nutella, I like it better than hazelnut and chocolate candy bars (although those are good too).

But I don't mind Nutella. I think that the Nutella sold here in the U.S. is not as tasty as that sold in Europe. Just my opinion.

From .Wikipedia....

The first jar of Nutella left the factory in Alba on April 20, 1964

But a very fine 420 spread indeed!

Nutella is not going to hold it against me. My wife hasn't left even though some anniversaries were remembered days later (by both of us)!

I imagine it would be better if it was the original recipe of 71% hazelnut and 19% chocolate.

You want sweet? Put some strawberry preserves on your peanut butter toast

I've never tried Nutella so I don't know if it's better than peanut butter.

It could go either two ways:

1. I could not like it and feel like I just wasted my money on something that I don't like

or

2. I could immediately like it and obtain another food addiction

because I love orangutans

Not only is Palm Oil bad for the environment, and a major cause of climate change, but it is also the leading cause of orangutan extinction.
