The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTomorrow, I'm leaving on a jet plane...to Nice and then North Africa on a voyage....
going to Tarragona, Gibraltar, Tangier, Seville, Portomaio and Lisbon. 12 days in all.
I expect to learn a LOT about the cultures in each port. Will have a half day just for the Seville Museum of Art which I can't wait to experience!
We've sailed with Atlas before, to the Mediterranean, and had a wonderful trip. They offered a big discount for this one and we decided to take it! We're both in our early 80's and not getting any younger...do it now, we might not get another chance...
If you have any tips on any of these ports, I'm glad to hear about them!
Bon voyage!
Kind of jealous. Do bring us some pictures a stories!

(63,912 posts)It's sad, because I'm writing about Matisse's La Danse right now, but we had to choose and Chagall got my husband's vote. I'm writing about Chagall, too, just not the art work that is in the Nice museum. I will be enchanted anyway!

(6,120 posts)You should have your own perspectives on what you see. Details of art would rise, etc.

(6,120 posts)But not on cruises. Nice, Tangier, Seville, Lisbon. I am 75, so I understand doing it while you still can. Don't know what you've previously done in these areas.
We stayed a couple of nights in Tangier. I recommend the American Legation, the caves of Hercules, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the next-door Kasbah Museum. Just up the hill from these last, I had a great view towards Spain with the waters of the Atlantic and the Med meeting but not mixing. They were different colors all the way to the horizon.
Have a great trip.

(6,120 posts)Take lots and lots of your own pictures in the moment. It costs you nothing extra. Treat all of those clicks as your personal stream of consciousness. At our advanced ages, our own memories are less strong and reliable. But having several photos in the moment dramatically change our experiences in reflection, whether after a few minutes or after dats and weeks.
There are lots of ways to get a recent good smartphone at a reasonable cost. These are easy to operate as excellent cameras. Just point and shoot produces incredible results. Please, just do it. In three months you will thank me.
