I'm not sure what it is. F-16? I don't know. I took these on my iPhone. We were driving just outside the town of St. Michael's, MD. The area is a lot of small "gentleman farmer" 1% "farms" and estates, all waterfront and worth a lot of money. The mast/flagpole caught my eye. There, beyond the flagpole was this jet. Still has the military paint job. Looked Navy, but I'm not up on fighters from this era, plus it was a goodly ways off. It was pretty clear there was no engine in it.
I had to stop and take some pictures.
You just don't see this every day.

It's on loan from the Navy, and for years the town let kids play on it & beat it up. A few years ago the Navy said "If you don't take care of it, we'll take it back." Since then the town has repaired & painted it and fenced it off.

(38,354 posts)... that was specifically converted to serve as playground equipment.
The engines and instruments had been taken out and the empty spaces covered over with welded stainless steel sheeting so kids could crawl about inside.
It was our spaceship. It could go anywhere, to the moon and alien planets.
