"Iron Sky" Space Nazis are coming! Be afraid!

Has anyone seen the trailers for Iron Sky yet? It's billed on IMDB as 'action,' comedy,' 'sci-fi.' I don't know if this is going to be hilarious, hilariously bad or (as one critic put it) "a blitzkrieg of boring bad."

The premise is: Those "Nazi flying saucer" conspiracy theories were true and the Nazis used them to establish a lunar base (Does Newt know something he isn't telling us?). In 2018, the Space Nazis attack Earth with their fleet of flying saucers and spaceships that look like zeppelins.

Yeah, that's the premise; but, it gets whackier: The president of the United States in 2018 is played by an actress who seems to be doing an impression of Tina Fay, doing an impression of Sara Palin. Oh, and there's a sexy blonde in an SS uniform, with a miniskirt and go-go boots, right out of softcore S&M porn.

This is Plan 9 From Outer Space with the kind of special effects budget that Ed Wood would have sold his soul for!

Here's the first trailer on YouTube:

Oh, did I mention the Zombie Storm Troopers?

And what's with the flying saucers?

It's true that the Nazis had the world's most advanced rockets during the war, but America's top ex-Nazi rocket scientist, former SS Sturmbannführer Wernher von Braun, never got to play with any flying saucers.

As for the Nazi flying saucers, there's been a myth/conspiracy theory out for years that the Nazis were responsible for flying saucers, which they were supposedly flying out of their secret base in Antarctica (where they were keeping Hitler alive through a mix of science and occultism).

Hey, it's a movie (sort of!)! Don't take it seriously.

Lastly, yeah I know about von Braun's SS membership.

It's hard to tell what the motorcycle rider is wearing. The view from behind shows something that might be an air hose, and his neck is at least covered up. But it doesn't look like any space suit I ever saw.

You're way ahead of most people in what you know about von Braun. I'd bet that most Americans have never heard of him. I didn't know that he had been a Nazi until Tom Lehrer wrote that song about him. I didn't believe it at first. To be fair, I should mention that von Braun joined the SS only because he didn't dare refuse Himmler's invitation.

Another point (taking the movie too seriously) - the best location from which to launch a Moon rocket would be at north or south latitude 20-25 degrees (approximately), because you want the orbital plane of the rocket to be close to that of the Moon, which is 5 degrees away from the Ecliptic, which is 23.5 degrees away from the Equator. The South Pole would be a really bad choice for a launch pad.
