Funny... growing up I could NOT eat it -- MiddleFingerMomMom didn't cater (much) to picky
appetites (something that has allowed me to get adventurous as an adult, I think), but I
would seriously gag up so badly that it's the one thing (oh... and fish -- bone-in-the-throat
as a young child experience) that she would let me slide on. She used to steam it and then
bake it SWAMPED with butter on toast points -- I LOVED those toast points, even though
they tasted strongly of asparagus. Go figger.
.
When we had fish... I got PB&J's.

I also LOVE lima beans (always have)... sometimes with a little ranch dressing and/or bacon.

Throw it in a plastic bag. Drizzle in some olive oil, some salt and pepper and shake it all up then grill it. And it's cheap now

I prefer them steamed in the microwave just until done but still crisp with just a little salt added at the table. If I want fancier, a little bacon grease stirred in as the beans are cooking, just enough for flavor. Next step up, stir fried green beans with garlic like they serve at the Chinese buffet in town.

I'll eat green bean casserole when people serve it, but it's not my favorite way to eat my beans!

well, maybe okra but it is devil spawn, and even that is pretty good deep fried.

Lately I have been hooked on root vegetables--carrots, potatoes, parsnips, turnips, onions and cabbage oven roasted with olive oil

cabbage goes with everything

... a vegetable and a fruit.

"Vegetable" is about where it fits in your diet. "Fruit" is what part of the plant it is.

Plenty of vegetables are fruits: peppers, squashes, tomatoes, cucumbers ...

I once went on one date with a "vegan" who made an exception for bacon and when I teased her about it she snapped "Bacon is a vegetable!" at me and started an argument in a crowded lakeside restaurant in Hartford's Elizabeth Park, home of the world's most-elaborate and huge rose garden. I posted the entire story on DU2, I think it's in my journal too.

Ever since, "Bacon is a vegetable" is a running joke in my circle of friends for when you're faced with a choice between an absurdity and something you don't want to admit is true.

My favorite vegetable is aubergine.
