(149,762 posts)Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not dead to you!
My husband and I love Road House! Our favorite line is: "Pain don't hurt."
Oh sure it don't! lol
That line is just classic.

(95,337 posts)And maybe you need to give some hurt to get people to see the wonder that is this movie. How Patrick Swayze didn't get a best Oscar for his performance of Dalton still baffles to me this day! I'm sure there are fans of Daniel Day-Lewis out there who did an amazing job playing a man with Cerebral Palsy who could only do things with his left foot. But Patrick Swayze had Lewis beat as the Harvard education bar bouncer & cooler who comes to Jasper to fix up not just the Double Deuce Bar but the good people of Jasper Wyoming.

(66,509 posts)Patrick Swayze was a very appealing actor. Sam Elliott still is.
But that movie is awful...

(18,837 posts)It's like a stupid onion...layer after layer after layer of stupidity. A script filled with "groaners." Acting that stretches the definition of "acting"...
...it's a beautiful mess, and that's why I love it. When I want to watch a "good" movie I'll watch "Key Largo" or "Goodfelllas."

(5,435 posts)But to be fair, it's a 'favorite' bad movie for me, too...
Especially since Jeff Healey is in it, too...

(95,337 posts)Somehow Dalton is capable of turning a shithole of a bar where total hicksville-mentality anarchy rules and turn it into an hip downtown NYC-style night club.
Only in the really bad movielands could a plot like this actually work!

I sadly never got to watch it. It came out when I was just 10 and in a different country.
I haven't actually heard about it till recently, it is on my list of things to watch one day.

(18,837 posts)...in "real life," Brad Wesley would have had Dalton snuffed after the first night. Dalton would have been walking to his car and either taken a knife in the back or a bullet in the head. The film presents him as a mysterious, conflicted, tortured Tai Chi / martial arts guy with Zen wisdom to spare but he was just another meat suit, vulnerable to any attack on his way to the car after closing time. OR They could have just blown up his house, as they did with his landlord or Red's auto shop.
Yeah, it was all about a game of "cat and mouse," and Wesley DOES tell Doc that she needs to "get rid of him." In REAL life, Wesley would have seen Dalton as a threat to his milking the town dry (which he was), and his amusement would have run thin in VERY short order.
In moments like this I think of a TV Guide article that came out during the second season of "The Sopranos." They sat down with a few "real-life New Jersey Wise Guys" and asked them if the show reflected reality.
The ONLY thing they said was NOT realistic was the Christoper Molitssante character. Tony's nephew or not, they called him "one for the trunk" (think "Goodfellas" and said that he never would have survived the first season without getting whacked.
