If the schools are all in the same proximity and students are present, then block the time 6:50 - 9:10 and 2:00 - 4:30

6:49? 7:52? Now that is nit picky.

Why not just have it from 6:45 - 9:15 AM and 2:00 - 4:30 PM? Can't they tell this is an accident just begging to happen?

6. Speed limit sign

In this mornng's paper, they showed the new sign 6:49 - 9:07 and 2:03 - 4:29

But as you said in your post 6:45 - 9:15 and 2:00 - 4:45 would be better...

5. This is legally mandated - they can't block all times

A bit silly though. I do believe that the silliest speed limit signs are the ones in the last place I lived, all over: "End of Xmph speed limit"....... Would it not have been easier, clearer and cheaper just to tell us what the new speed limit was?

...(A)fter an outcry from the public, the school zone signs near the Lakeland High School campus were changed...The old signs stated drivers, on school days, needed to slow down to 25 mph at six different times...The new signs state the school zone will be in effect from 6:49 - 9:07AM...and 2:03 - 4:29PM...

White Lake Supervisor Greg Baroni said the change was made around 10 a.m. Thursday. "...(T)he (Huron Valley School) district...didn't know about the change...It was likely a change made by the county."

Craig Bryson, public information officer with the Road Commission for Oakland County, (said), "This wasn't our ideal alternative, and we will still be meeting with the school district and township to discuss the installation of a flashing yellow light and how the district would pay their portion..."

This may not be an "ideal alternative," but it's definitely more likely to prevent accidents -- and make it appear that someone on the Oakland County Road Commission successfully completed school!

11. Um, in my prior life (career), I used to drive that road every day to and from work.

I don't see what the big fuss is. Not any different than any other school zone with specific times. Just a bigger range because of multiple schools.

Now I work in the other corner of Oakland Co. I drive through a school zone with 2 sets of times, not 3.

It's not rocket science.
