Death by Electrical Experiment

Georg Wilhelm Richmann was attending a meeting at the St. Petersburg Academy of Science in August of 1753 when he heard thunder. He ran home to see how an insulated rod he’d contrived responded to an electrical storm. A ball of lightning leapt from the rod, striking him in the head and killing him. He was the first person to die while conducting an electrical experiment.
