(115,899 posts)cats can change their state of matter at will, to become liquid. A liquid is something that assumes the shape of its container. Q.E.D., cats are liquids when they want to be.

No wonder so much internet bandwidth is devoted to cats. They are such funny creatures.

(3,163 posts)Freddy disappeared one day. Gone. Could not find him. We frantically searched the house. He must have slipped outside. We were at the point of printing "lost cat" posters when we noticed him lying on top of a dresser in the closet, in plain sight, looking at us like, "What's all the excitement about?"

(30,777 posts)I remember when we were caring for our daughter's cat. He had to stay for about six months while she straightened out her immigration to Canada.
We had a new bed delivered. The noise must have frightened Wilson. We looked for him for nearly a full day. We thought he had escaped the house. He showed up, tucked between a wall and inside a comforter, when he felt like it. He wasn't hiding. He liked it there.
He crawled out and looked at us like we were insane.

(5,106 posts)I'd left her in a bedroom while I took the dog to a boarding kennel and told the movers not to open the door to that room until I returned. Of course they did so, and one of them thought she'd run outside through an open door. She was nowhere to be found, but we left food, water and a litter box in the house to be safe. She was very shy about going outside, and the neighbors were on the lookout. One of the neighbors called a week later, saying she'd seen her through a window. We'd moved only about forty miles away and quickly drove back to look for her. She was nowhere to be found in the now empty house. We finally found her squeezed into an unbelievably narrow space between a fixed sink and a wall in the utility room. She had quite a few good years after that.

(115,899 posts)if they hear the crinkling of a treat package or the rattling of a can opener. I think they are able to locate portals into other universes that they slip in and out of.
Cat physics is nothing like Newtonian physics.

(24,071 posts)At least twice a month, one or the other of our 5, all of whom are indoor cats, will decide to hide. Several times, I have been convinced that someone has escaped and have walked the neighborhood calling for whomever.
One of our females, when she was really tiny (1.5 lbs), managed to squeeze herself into the space between the top of our dining room table and the table base. The only reason I knew she was there was that her slightly larger litter mate brother was on one of the dining room chairs peering into the space. He wanted to follow her, but his head was too big to fit thru the gap. I would never have thought to look for her there. She still likes to hide, and now, at age 11, she has gone deaf so I can't call her because she doesn't hear me.

(13,877 posts)and dresser drawers. I had left the middle drawer partly open. When I came back, both cats were sitting in the empty drawer with eyes pleading "Do we get to go to?" (at least that was my cat language guess). Still have the photo. Yes, they went too.
