China used to be cool, but now they're getting all weird on us...

Chinese feminists show off armpit hair in photo contest

Beijing (CNN)In the fight against domestic violence and gender inequality, Chinese feminists have opened up a new battlefront: Their armpits.

They ask, why should women have to shave their pits when men are never expected to?

To subvert the double standard, feminist Xiao Meili, 25, started an armpit hair photo contest on Chinese social network Weibo.

Dozens of women have participated, including three of the five feminists briefly arrested in March over a protest for gender equality. The participants sent in selfies and glamor shots with their arms proudly raised, revealing natural hair underneath.

Six winners will be selected from the photo competition, which ends Wednesday. Prizes include condoms, vibrators and a pedestal urinal that a woman can use while standing.

That's okay. It's interesting, though, that having armpit hair was accepted not that long ago LiberalEsto Jun 2015 #13

Oh, they still do. But at least not for long.

Asians don't have much body hair, but is there a thing about women who have to shave their legs not doing that either?

The pedestal potty makes a lot of sense, I think, but only at home where it isn't really needed that much. A public one could save some time, ya think, but only if you wear a skirt and no underwear. I'm imaging a design that gets past that, but has other problems. Serious problems.

We could use those here in California. They'd save tons of water!

She told me the only women who shaved their armpits back then were prostitutes.

As far as I recall, my mother and her immigrant friends never shaved back in the 1950s and 60s.
In the hippie era, many women didn't either.

That was pretty weird. Get hired by a rich Chinese to hang out with you at a club to show you're cool & worldly then after complain about your job with the other white guys. So many other odd jobs you get like pretending to be a white international business man collecting business cards at a mall. Not sure where the profit is but somebody is making money off that show. Or a presentation attended by numerous people featuring real Chinese doctors but the show up for the lecture from the (don't know that he is fake) white male doctor. Also white butlers is a booming business.
