She was the most loving cat I ever saw. That makes all three pets gone since March -- my big tabby Koko, and my border collie Duffy. I haven't been petless for about 26 years, but now I am.
Edited to add this photo of Zelda that was on the label of Jones Soda about ten years ago.

(149,843 posts)How sad for you. Your home must feel very empty...
I hope that you will soon be able to rescue another cat...when you're ready.

(50,130 posts)If I listed the names of the cats/dogs I've "mothered" in the last twenty years, you would laugh at how many! People just seemed to leave their pets with me when they moved or couldn't keep them. But losing these three in one spring is a hard knock.
We will be looking for a sweet orange tabby late this summer after we're done with some travel.

(12,162 posts)I am very sorry your beloved little Zelda died, and I'm sorry too about Koko and Duffy. I think losing our dear pets is one of the hardest things in the world to deal with. I hope you find comfort in fond memories of your beloved furry friends.

(50,130 posts)Her previous owner apparently sang a lot; if you were to sing any song, she would come running. "Happy Birthday" was her favorite, and I sang it to her last night when she was passing. She was rescued from a shelter by another family member who ended up not bonding with her despite her extremely loving and affectionate nature. So she came to me about ten years ago. She was an excellent companio
Another quirk: she would use her paws like a little monkey does. I brought a rock home from the river about the size of a golf ball, and she took it in her little paws and turned it and licked it over and over again. Odd.

(24,146 posts)Thank you for sharing that great photo, and the descriptions of how she used her paws and her love of singing. I will remember those things even though I never knew her.
I am one of those who always needs to welcome a new kitty pretty quickly when one has crossed that damn Rainbow Bridge. It gives the love for the departed one some place to attach to - love isn't happy when it is just floating around. I think of new cats as successors, never as "replacements."

(28,134 posts)Poor Zelda. It's so hard to lose such a good kitty.
This happened to my hubs and myself in 1983. Three fur babies and one baby girl gone within 6 months - two kitties, one yellow Lab, and my newborn daughter.
I know it's crushing for you as it was for us. It's heartbreaking and surreal. We lingered between pain and numbness for months.
Give yourself time until your heart is ready for another one, not to replace your dear Zelda, Koko, or Duffy - for there'll be no replacements that can fill their paw prints in your heart but your heart will expand. I know.
I'm literally crying along with you now. Sending cyber hubs.

Zelda looks like an adorable pussums. In due course, go to a cat shelter and let a cat pick you out.
