Strawberry Parfait Day, dedicated to that delicious treat that is so welcome during the hot summer months, and craved even in the face of the biting cold of winter by the true connoisseur. The exotic sounding name brings to mind the quaint little street-side cafes of Paris, where the treat so many of us are familiar with found its origin.It’s name describes the treat to a tee, Parfait means, simply, “Perfect”. But a perfect what? The word parfait has actually been used to describe quite a number of different things, and not all of them are delicious layered deserts.

In the UK, the word is actually used to describe a smooth meat paste, also known as a pate, that is traditionally made from the liver of a chicken or duck, mixed with a strong liquer of one form or another.This is certainly not what Strawberry Parfait Day is about! Instead, our parfait are those popularized by ice cream shops all over the world, especially those served in layers of delectable ice-creams and gelatins with drool worthy fruit toppings.

Such was the dedication to making this the perfect treat, that special glasses were designed solely for the purpose of showing off the artistically layered designs made during the treats creation. Parfaits can include any combination of ingredients, from creams and fruits, nuts, liquor, even gelatin or granola. They’ve crossed the line from being merely a dessert food, to being deemed appropriate for any time of day, with just a twist on exactly what’s included.

What of the strawberry I hear you say? I do distinctly remember hearing something about strawberries that were intended to go with this parfait. Right you are! The strawberry as we know it today, that delicious, fragrant red fruit with the jaunty green cap, was first developed in Brittany, France, during the 1750’s. It might be thought that the French were dedicating their time solely to the perfection of this divine treat! Catfish Day Catfish Day is a holiday that dates back to June 25, 1987, when U.S. President Ronald Reagan opened a presidential address by speaking about the culinary pleasures of eating catfish, and farmed catfish in particular. The President then went on to explain how catfish farming was creating both a stable income for farmers and an affordable food source for Americans.

The holiday is now traditionally celebrated on the anniversary of President Reagan’s address. It is observed primarily in the United States, by preparing and eating catfish.

Catfish are any fish from a number of species that usually feature whisker-like barbels near the mouth. They are usually bottom-feeders in freshwater, and many species are farmed or fished for food. Although catfish is a popular dish in many regions, it is extremely popular as a breaded and fried dish in the southern United States, where its popularity indirectly led to the creation of the holiday.

Color TV Day There is an innovation that many of us take for granted every day. Whether we’re sitting at our computers, watching television with the family, or even playing with our handheld games, we are inundated with a bright parade of colors. Color TV Day reminds us that this hasn’t always been the case, when Television was first introduced we had nothing but black and white images, really more of a myriad shade of grey. In 1951, an event came to pass that changed the future of broadcast entertainment forever.

The first commercial broadcast was a variety show, containing a number of entertainers, whose name would go on to become legend, including Ed Sullivan. While this broadcast was only available to those who owned a color-ready TV, it was the first step to changing everything.

TV first started being experimented with in the late 19th century, but electronics were simply not advanced enough at that point to make the process work effectively. Another 30 years passed by before anything like a successful television broadcast system was put together. But even then, it wasn’t until 1935 that regular broadcasts black and white broadcasts were being sent out, and those only contained 108 lines per frame. This was the beginning of a massive boom in broadcasting, and by 1950 there were 6 million televisions in the United States alone.

Color television had been in development as early as 1897, but it didn’t come to fruition until 1928. At this point a color broadcast was demonstrated, but the actual first broadcast didn’t take place until 1938. These were just the testing broadcasts, and it wasn’t until 1954 that the first national broadcast occurred on January 1st, heralding in a new era of broadcast entertainment. This was just the beginning of a turning point, and it wasn’t until 1965 that an official transition took place. Global Beatles Day it was in the year 1960, on a foggy island found Nor-Norwest of Spain that music history changed forever. Four young proto-gods came together to form what would be one of the most influential rock bands to ever come out of England, if not the entire world. We’re speaking, of course, of the Beatles. Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr. These four boys came together to change the world one song at a time.

While they started their career like most musical groups, playing cheap dive clubs all over their home town of Liverpool, their manager was an artisan of his craft and helped guide them to rise to their potential. Their explosion in popularity came on the heels of their first hit song “Love Me Do”, and love them we did, it didn’t take long before the entire world was caught up in Beatlemania.

Global Beatles Day celebrates the huge influence they brought to the world, not just with their musical sounds, but with the values they professed and believed in. Throughout their entire career they promoted the idea that we could all live in a peaceful world, built on the ideas of truth, love, and reaching beyond the boundaries of current human consciousness.
