Did you ever think that earworms might be sound waves travelling through time?


What made me think of this, you may ask. The other day I had a song from 1954 charts in my head. I was alive then, but
I don't remember that song from that time.

Be grateful that's all yours is doing. For an unfortunate few they can generate "Hey! Wouldn't it be cool to qualify for a Darwin Award?!"

Usually, when this happens to me, there's a much simpler explanation.

Yesterday I got stuck with a barely-remembered song from the mid 1970s, because I heard part of a much later song that had a similar tune. Frequently, even though I'm not paying attention to it, I will hear something playing in the background at the supermarket, and that will get caught in my head.
