The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumson Monday May 9, I got a text from some purported tax company
claiming I'd contacted them with an inquiry. Their website ends in org, so I texted back something along the lines of, "who the fuck are you? go away & leave me alone." I got 3 more calls that day, from multiple numbers, with 1 voicemail
Tuesday: 4 more calls from multiple numbers
Wednesday: 4 more calls from multiple numbers
Thursday: 10 calls plus voice mail
Friday: just got another call w/voicemail. Apparently rejecting a call triggers a voicemail.
Here are the numbers he/she/it is calling from:
626-638-2029
774-221-4027
404-594-8967
888-829-6911
347-527-5147
913-535-4783
504-298-9911
904-421-4437
843-606-1169
All of them come up as moderate to high spam when googled. 4 a day was bad, but 10?
I have a track phone and have gotten little to no spam until now. This is effing ridiculous. (

(34,140 posts)I often just put the number into a search engine but the best results tend to come from http://800notes.com
Most of the time the numbers that seem suspicious are scammers.
You can put your cell number into https://donotcall.gov/ and enter complaints. That may not stop the calls, but it give the FCC more information to try to investigate the scammers.

(14,881 posts)2 of them don't have complaints listed yet, and 1 complains but not specifically about "tax defense service"
I know it's a scam. What is amazing to me is that it's branched out to so many freakin' #s and that I would get 10 calls in a single day. It's really annoying to check my phone and see 10 missed calls. That's a lot of numbers to look through to make sure nobody I need to speak to called. (luckily right now I have zero reason to expect a call from anybody).
I did get one additional piece of info: the "Tax Defense Service" company (I forget its "official" name) gets an F rating from BBB and its CFO is in jail for fraud.
