Calvin and Hobbes should be everyones favorite comic strip. But what makes it so special? Kaptain Kristian dives in to explain why the strip is so good. The argument centers around the idea that Calvin and Hobbes puts art before commerce, as all art should.

That didn't end the hijinks, though. Breathed also released his own Calvin and Hobbes comic strip featuring the daring duo as they contemplate eating the brains of Bloom County's Opus.

(5,504 posts)1. The art work is superior..and broke new ground in terms of how the dialogue boxes were expanded or contracted.
2. BW tapped into a certain nostalgic pathos that touched the hearts of adults.
3. It was not insulting to young peoples intelligence, in fact, it was somewhat challenging to them.
4. The relationship between Calvin...his parents...his friends AND reality was very real, AND very different.
5. BW for the most part, kept issues like politics, personal views, agendas, out of the equation. That would have only
alienated his readers.
