Looks like they call them pommefrites over there. I bet they are delicious.

(22,909 posts)...but the story is hopelessly complicated (at least to me), so I gave up. I was hoping for a simple, straightforward, answer, but abandoned the search pretty quickly. Here's a link, in case anyone is feeling up to it:

Suffice it to say, I love them, though I don't indulge very often

(135,425 posts)Sometimes just plain mayo....sometimes mayo and mustard, or mayo and catsup, or mayo and curried catsup....
I've had all sorts. It's all good!
Those look like they come from a tandoori or kebab joint, or something! Is that naan, or is it "Syrian" bread doing double-duty as a french fry bowl?

Europe has finally embraced the reality that people don't always have time to sit down for a long meal. To elders, it's still a bit heretical, but it is the way things are.
I can remember when the "Walkie Cup" (this is a paper --cardboard, really--cup, with plastic lid--common in USA--designed so you can take your hot drink with you "to go" first hit the psyche of Italian people. The older people found it criminal; the youth were amused and found it tremendously convenient!

(50 posts)From what I've read, French fried potatoes originated in Belgum, a country that speaks French. But who cares, they're delicious regardless of what country they came from.
