Just had my exam today so I know the answer to this: In the middle of a mammogram.
Just two words for you: Coyote Ugly.

He always refuses.

(17,635 posts)I realized I am borderline sorta claustrophobic (or something) when I had to have an MRI done. I made it through somehow, but hands down, worst experience of my life. Next time doctor orders one I *will* remember to ask if I can take anti-anxiety pills (and how many I should take ... for normal situational anxiety I would only take one, but I'm thinking a higher dose might be appropriate in this case).

(26,370 posts)I'm not claustrophobic but I was a little uneasy getting in one of those tubes. I can see how it would freak you out.
They have to send people home all the time. The worst is when someone doesn't realize they have an issue and keep wanting to stop the scan - "I need a drink of water, I need a breather, I need to go to the bathroom." No, you need pills.
They tell them to come back with prescription because they have a schedule to keep.
They have an open MRI and my partner thinks it is worse.

(17,635 posts)it would have to be started all over from the beginning. No thank you!
Yeah, I had anxiety issues in the past but I guess that was buried so deep in my record that the doctor didn't think to mention it, and I didn't realize how awful it would be until I got in there.
I know now though!
Anyway thanks for the advice. Hopefully I just never ever have to do that again.

(33,067 posts)I am a retired mammo tech. The machines require 2 buttons to be pushed to make an exposure. A couple of summers ago a thunderstorm turned the building power off, after the compression was engaged but before I could make the exposure
the safety override engaged and the plates opened.
I think that the lead linings of the rooms would slow way down zombies getting in, & yes I spend sometime thinking about that the am after watching the walking dead.

(32 posts)That would be quite a terrible predicament for me at least. I'd probably be carrying a rifle with me at all times just in case.
