http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10428970/2-years-130lbs-and-a-very-long-post-with-a-pile-of-pics-at-the-endOne of the reasons I have faded away from DU was an extreme need to get my health in order. I do still read the forums, but mainly if I am walking my hallway, which makes it hard for me to post. I can walk and chew gum, but not walk and post! LOL
Editing to add that Tikki reminded me that my boys were babies when I started coming here (younger would nurse while I was on here,) so here's an updated pic or 2 of them from ElderGreenKid's high school graduation!

I dropped 30 lbs and that was hard enough. Still a few pounds to go.

(58,797 posts)you look great. I'm jealous of your available hiking trails. I'd have to drive many miles to get some that good.
Mostly, I have to walk on city sidewalks.
But we do what we have to do. There is a trail along the river that isn't too far away.
GreenPartyVoter
(72,388 posts)sometimes little local preserves and trails you can find by searching online. We have started doing that for variety. On Saturday, we will be doing the Bangor City Forest bog boardwalk. Not a huge calorie burn, but better than just going straight to shopping and pizza.

(36,573 posts)Hiking is a great way to get in shape & it looks like you have some great trails near you! I try to hit the trails at least twice a week & walk around the neighborhood the other days. Hike days are the best, though. Great job! Glad you're back.

(36,573 posts)Just kidding. Even I can't do a fourteener! I start gasping at about 12,000 feet. But maybe next year. Years ago, before Dennis Miller went to the dark side, he performed in Aspen. He had an oxygen tank on the stage next to him. When the audience laughed, he said, "Get a fucking atmosphere!"

(20,256 posts)I bet your husband is so happy he doesn't have to worry about your health so much anymore.
Re: the saggy skin. At the end of the day, especially after 40, most of us have a body. It might be bigger or smaller, but our days of turning heads with our hot bods are usually over. Maintaining the hot bod we had in our teens and 20s would take a lot of hours in the gym that most of us don't have. And even if we had the hours, most of us just have better things to do. Exercise enough to be healthy and as much as you enjoy it, but beyond that it's pretty much vanity.
GreenPartyVoter
(72,388 posts)the silver lining is that my high square hips slid down to my thighs, giving me a nicer silhouette. How's that for a silver lining?
Hubby is definitely thrilled. He has worried about me for so long.

(23,203 posts)You have done so much to get your health better, I am in awe. I'm near the starting point of my journey, got a Fitbit and started walking and have lost 6 out of the 30 lbs. I still need to lose. You are inspiring me to get more serious about cutting out the sugar and junk in my diet so I lose more weight. I'm also considering now that maybe I set my goals too low. I've thought that I couldn't get below 150, since I hadn't done that in the past 30 years. Maybe I could get back to 135, at 5'5" that's fairly slender and what I weighed when I got pregnant the first time? Thank you for sharing your awesome story and for the inspiration.

(4,079 posts)You have seriously inspired me! I need to lose about 60 pounds to be healthy. My hubby needs to lose about the same amount, and we keep talking about it, but haven't yet gotten serious.
I've always made excuses--and I have a lot of them. My husband has heart problems, I'm on lots of medication for a chronic pain problem, etc. But if I think about it, those are not excuses, but good reasons to get healthier.
I think the universe is sending me a message that now is a good time to get serious about my health and weight issues: my kids just moved out of the house; it's summer, and we live a in perfect hiking area; my brother has lost 45 pounds and looks and feels amazing; we're thinking about going to Hawaii for our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary ; and now your post!
Your story is so inspiring, and your pictures are amazing!
I think I'll take some "before" pictures today .
Take care.

(55,032 posts)I'm starting a program myself (and PLATE OF SHRIMP!) it just began today. In reading something I saw the phrase "fit and physically capable" that I really liked as wording for a goal rather than to look better or lose weight. Those are just side benefits.
So I have been thinking of the things I haven't been doing for various reasons for YEARS and how great it will be to do them again. Your hiking pictures absolutely inspire me. I want to go some places you can only get to on foot!
Congratulations, you DO look fabulous but I bet the way you FEEL is even better!

(55,032 posts)I felt like I needed the added incentive of forking out some money to keep me motivated.
If I will drive 20 miles to recover a 50 cent off coupon I forgot to use, paying for this program will hopefully at least make me keep logging in.

(8,629 posts)You are an inspiration! I'm having some physical issues myself, and am about 20 pounds overweight and do not feel fit at all. I'm on leave right now from work for rotator cuff surgery, and they've discovered degenerative discs in my neck that were just diagnosed from an MRI - I just found that out today. As soon as I can get these things a bit straightened out I want to start walking and hiking again, too. I expect the weight to come off in good time, but it doesn't make it any easier emotionally right now when I'm feeling fat, ugy, in pain and old!
GreenPartyVoter
(72,388 posts)very much about coping if I get sidelined with an injury. It's so much harder to eat carefully on a tinier calorie budget., especially when those difficult emotions get triggered.
