The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira officially been cast in Black Panther, as revealed at the Marvel Hall H panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego. Gurira will play Okoye, the head of the elite Wakandan secruity force called the Dora Milaje.
Danai, a Zimbabwean American actress, is best known for her role as Michonne in The Walking Dead. AMC announced their casting decision regarding Danai back in March 2012, and the actress has since experienced a surge in popularity following her stint. And, now, the actress will be trading in Michonnes katana momentarily to star in Marvels Black Panther.
By joining Black Panther, Danai is joining a packed cast as Chadwick Boseman will reprise his role as TChalla/Black Panther. He will be surrounded by fellow cast mates like Lupita Nyongo, Michael B. Jordan, and Andy Serkis. Of course, Andy Serkis will return as Ulysses Klaue as the villain debuted in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Currently, there's no word on who Lupita, Danai, or Michael will be playing in, but fans are already speculating which roles they might fill.
For those unfamiliar with the group, the Dora Milaje stands as the Black Panthers bodyguards and is compromised of some seriously awesome Wakandan women. The superior warriors are assembled to fiercely protect their nation with their lethal skills, so tell me - doesnt that sound like something Danai would rock at?

(1,681 posts)The BP is shaping up to be a big, big movie. When BP becomes a eventual runaway, smashing success then MCU will cement their foot inside of Warner Bros. ass for the next decade. WB will have to put Batman in every movie in their universe just to keep pace.

(16,191 posts)I don't know who got
the business end of Lucille, but
we know that Michonne
and a few other characters
stay alive throughout the comic series.
Granted, anyone who has
listened to the Walking Dead producers knows that
every story is being rewritten for the TV show, but
not all storylines can be abandoned that easily. If Michonne died
now, the show would have to be completely forked from the comic books
!
