(16,097 posts)Make it clear you do not want to sell you are just interested for insurance purposes.
If you do want to sell, ask for an offer after the appraisal.

(34,661 posts)if you have a rare coin, good luck, you might have to take it to several so called coin appraisers. Get the numbers in writing if you are planning on selling.

(38,539 posts)This makes me wary of an appraisal by a stranger. These are all coins left to wife by her dad. He has mostly uncirculated coins for the 60's and 70's. There may be some rare coins among his miscellaneous though.

(1,724 posts)Also, golddealer.com I've had good experience with.
You can call them and ask.
If you send them a copy (inventory) of what you have, they might be able to help you.
Most coins minted in the 1960s-1970s aren't worth a whole lot (sans a 1964 Kennedy half dollar).
Also, IKE's made out of silver. Silver coins weren't minted after 1964.
You may want to try a local coin shop/dealer.

I hope this helps.

(54,587 posts)A caveat about PCGS. I will PM you about them.
I can help you if it is a coin I am familiar with. You'd need to be more specific about what is.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
