Related: About this forumI've been hoping there'd be video of Silveroller on their tour this month, and the first one just showed up on YouTube
Silveroller are touring in the UK with Dutch band DeWolff, whom they met while touring last October.
Video of both bands in Edinburgh tonight: Silveroller playing Hold, their first single, and DeWolff playing Double Crossing Man (never a single for them, as far as I could discover; it's one of the tracks on their 2018 album, Thrust, a Top 10 album in the Netherlands).
The official videos for both songs:

(49,034 posts)Hungry like DeWolff: Dutch trio deliver a classic rock master class.
By Nick Hasted( Classic Rock ) published 3 May 2018
Rock doesnt get much more classic in style or exuberantly convincing than this. Not a note sounds as if it was played later than 1978, or indeed in Utrecht in 2017, as is the unlikely case here (somewhere with both Zep and Allmans sessions bleeding in through the walls seems more credible).
But within their own gleefully built parameters, DeWolffs arrangements are so imaginatively freewheeling, and their spirit so open-hearted, that they brim with versatile vigour in the 21st century. This eighth album by a trio still not out of their twenties is a blueprint for classic rock as an enduring form.

Young bands like Silveroller and DeWolff are not only a joy to listen to, but they give me great hope for what Classic Rock magazine called (in the review of DeWolff in the previous reply) "classic rock as an enduring form."

(3,336 posts)Bring on the puka shells. Will definitely make it to a show in the states as long as they make it to the west coast.

(49,034 posts)I wish so much I could have seen them on this tour, but they're an ocean and half a continent away.
Did you ever wear puka shells? I bought some but can't recall wearing them, think I just hung them over the edge of a mirror. Just checked a jewelry chest of very old jewelry, going back to pearl earrings my dad bought for my mom. Found an ankh pendant I'd bought long ago, but no puka shells.
I get a kick out of most of the retro '70s clothing the guys in Silveroller wear, stuff they usually find in thrift shops. Not crazy about Jonnie's jacket, though. Of course he wasn't born yet then, wouldn't realize it might remind people of Herb Tarlek. And maybe it is considered cool retro fashion now. I still preferred the western shirt he was wearing.

And the reviewer also included video, uploaded to DeWolff's YouTube channel last October, of the song they end their set with. The YT description says this was recorded live in one take:

(49,034 posts)The first seconds of Come On, Come In are missing, but I still want to save this here because it's so stunning. This band should be in arenas, not crammed together on a tiny stage in a club.
They'll be at a club in London the day after tomorrow. I hope they'll get more media attention then.

(49,034 posts)The review of the gig at the Hug and Pint in Glasgow several days ago - https://theweereview.com/review/dewolff - is all about DeWolff except for one line about Silveroller's "stellar opening performance."
The review at https://www.rockatnight.com/2024/03/dewolff-in-oxford-impressive-and-mind-blowing-blues-rock/ was also mostly about DeWolff, with this paragraph about Silveroller:
The Silveroller setlists for each gig have been posted at Setlist.com. They'd started the tour doing only original material, but have added covers at times. A cover of the Box Tops hit The Letter is on a few setlists, and they've also done the Muddy Waters blues classic Mannish Boy. Hoping to find video of both eventually...
I did find video from 2018 of Jonnie and his blues band doing Mannish Boy. This was also the gig when Aaron Keylock first joined Jonnie on stage (later in the show), jamming with the Head Hunters Blues Band as Jonnie and Aaron were finding out how much they liked playing together before they formed Keylock, the first lineup of the band that's now Silveroller.

The set that begins with Black Crow immediately transports you back to a time of flares, scarves and patchouli. How does Hotson get his hair like that? It is almost as amazing as the music we are hearing! The open mellow notes of Turn To Gold comes next as Paul Rogers, sorry, Hotson twirls the mike stand dangerously within the limited space, Keylock treating us to some tasteful guitar which is layered with organ, fantastic!
-snip-
Come On, Come In comes next and it is simply a moment that Frees your soul, gentle and full of emotion, delivered by a bunch of ROCK gods. The venue is in awe and wonderment, as we come in out of the rain. Hold On Me proves to be the set closer and starts with pulsating drums before turning into a barnstorming rocker! Flourishes of Munro on Hammond meld together with guitar as Hotsons vocals take the song to another level. Judging by the audience reaction this is a favourite.
He was warned of the coming invasion, coming in from the sea and we believe that freedoms got a hold on me. The song builds and builds with slabs of guitar! It brings to an end a pulsating show that is stunning from start to finish. Little do I know at this time that Silveroller will be back on the stage later. For now I will conclude with; British Blues Rock is in more than safe hands. Silveroller could and should become huge. I am pleased to say that I was there at the beginning, well almost. Superb! The future meets the past so get on board now.

Much more at the link, but almost all the rest is a rave review for DeWolff.
The review does misspell Jonnie's last name - it's Hodson - but the band is very happy with it. I found out about it from a new post on their Facebook page.

(49,034 posts)Some info there that I hadn't run across before, including more details about the problems they ran into getting their first EP released. Also found out Jonnie's interest in the blues started with the Paul Rodgers album Muddy Water Blues.
