The song was playing on the jukebox in the background in Henry Hill’s dive bar while Billy Batts was getting beaten to death by Tommy and Jimmy (played by Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro respectively). It was a key scene that would affect the course of the movie later on. Martin Scorcese is a genius with soundtracks. Its amazing that he can work such a beautiful song into such a horrific scene and make it work.

There are a lot which say wanted to hear this song due to Goodfellas and Billy Batts getting the shit kicked out of him. Scorsese is brilliant in his use of music in his films.
