"Oh, that's just the opening act." turns into "Who was THAT??"

Always makes me laugh.

I remember watching 'Austin City Limits' one night with some friends. I believe it was 1983. We were stoked to hear... whoever it was. But, this one dude was supposed to open for him. Some guy named Stevie Ray Vaughan. Suffice to say, we were on our feet at the end of his set. And, I don't even remember who he opened for. He converted a lot of people that night. Us included.

That is how my hubby found out about The Cat Empire. We were working at Bonneroo and he decided to run out and check out some of the side stages. One of them had the Empire opening for someone else. (I want to say it was Sausage, one of Les Claypool's side projects.) Hubby got back to the campsite and was all aflutter about them. We eventually saw them twice around Nashville.

The keyboardist is really good!
I hear rhythm elements of Tull, & riffs like Yes.
Cool time signatures, too.
The guitar player got me with the wah.
Serious prog rock. Liked it a lot.

Ian encouraged them and kinda liked the idea of a strong pair of acts to make the concertgoers
evening special/memorable...

I saw them solo in Ohio in 1976 had been a fan since Octopus (octo-opus) ('72) album.

They were performing live in quadriphonic. These guys were all multi-instrumentalist monsters.

Best musicians I'd seen since Hendrix!

They played the big field house in the city where I grew up. 4 to 5 thousand seats with chairs on the floor.
Late '75, so Minstrel In The Gallery period.
Believe or not, UFO was the opening act! That's quite the pairing.
